I don’t watch much TV anymore.
Between work, writing and grad school, I’m usually found clicking away at keys instead of catching up on the newest TV series. Well, maybe just one…I’ve become shamelessly addicted to Greenleaf on Wednesday nights. Haven’t heard of it? We’ll have to talk about that another time.
Anyway, when I’m not blogging or working, I love to listen to my Audible. If you haven’t heard of Audible, it’s a digital app which allows the listener to hear their favorite books rather than read a print version. I looove it!
I’ve had the opportunity to download quite a number of audiobooks ranging from self-help to fiction to spiritual and all sorts in between. I’ve listened to fiction books which merely entertained me and books which have literally changed my life. I believe the more knowledge we expose ourselves to, the better we become as human beings.
I wanted to share with you 4 books that have made a profound impact on my life and how I view everyday challenges. Lord knows I’ve had my share of struggles and setbacks…even periods where I didn’t know if I would make it. I think most of us have had a time in our lives where something we read touched our spirit and allowed us to carry on. The following books are audible downloads, but most are available in print copy if that works better for you.
The New Psycho-Cybernetics Audible – Unabridged
Psycho-Cybernetics is all about having a positive self-image. I know the title sounds a bit intimidating but trust me this book is not hard to follow at all. This book has a great way of showing you what you REALLY think of yourself. Basically, if you don’t truly believe you deserve something, how can you go after it? If you apply the tools and techniques in this book, it can be life-changing.
Crash the Chatterbox: Hearing God’s Voice Above All Others
Unabridged by Steven Furtick and Elevation ChurchThis book is actually new to me. I started AND finished it 2 weeks ago and literally could not stop listening. If you live in your head like I do and struggle with deciphering your own thoughts versus what God is trying to say to you…READ or LISTEN to THIS! It is amazing. I am going to be listening to this one again after I go back and purchase the corresponding guidebook.
Fervent: A Woman’s Battle Plan to Serious, Specific and Strategic Prayer
Unabridged by Priscilla Shirer and christianaudio.com
If you watched the recent movie, War Room, then you’ve heard of Priscilla Shirer. This woman of God is not playing. In this book, she guides the reader on recognizing the true villian in most of our everyday struggles. Not only does this book show you how to find the culprit, but she shows you how to create a battleplan and fight back. I was inspired, motivated, and made some very specific life changes solely from the blessings in this book. It was so good, I went back and purchased the paperback so I could write in it.
Destiny: Step into Your Purpose
Unabridged by T. D. Jakes and Hachette Audio
It wasn’t too long ago that I began struggling with discovering my purpose. I was desperate to get on the path which God designed for me and depart from the path which seemed to have me wandering all over the place. Bishop Jakes approaches this often mind boggling subject from a spiritual standpoint. The book is expertly designed to take you from confusion and straw-pulling to a prayer filled, biblical journey, while simultaneously removing self-doubt and complacency. Needless to say, I am still on my journey like most of us, but this book has certainly altered my lackluster approach to pursuing what God has for me.
